Anna Vincent Class of 2009 – S.C.S. gave me a strong foundation in integrated Science and religious studies. I was thoroughly prepared for the rigor of the Jupiter Environmental Research and Field Studies Academy at Jupiter High School. I held the offices of co-president of Green Schools Initiative and team captain of Envirothon. My years of religious instruction ignited in me a passion for studying the Catholic faith. I have chosen to attend a Jesuit institution where I will examine my faith from a critical perspective, be challenged by the myriad social problems of our world, yet be nurtured by the enveloping “cura personalis” model of St. Ignatius. This fall I am matriculating into the Interdisciplinary Honors Program at Loyola University Chicago.
Sam Vincent Class of 2005 – I attended middle school at St. Clare from 2002 to 2005. St. Clare provided me with an impeccable education that stimulated my interest in a number of disciplines. My math and science classes thoroughly prepared me for the challenging Engineering and Technology Academy at Jupiter High School, and my social studies curriculum introduced me to the study of history, which has become a lifelong passion for me. Perhaps most importantly, St. Clare gave me a firm foundation in the Catholic faith. This foundation helped me navigate my teenage years, during which my faith was deeply shaken. It also played a major role in my choice to attend Fordham University, a Jesuit institution in New York City. I am very proud to be an alumnus of St. Clare, and I owe much of who I am today to my Saints experience.
Andrew Houvarous: St. Clare Class of 1984 – I work as a Board Certified Behavior Analyst, serving primarily children in the autism spectrum. The community at St. Clare’s: the teachers, staff and priests taught us to be compassionate and to appreciate our many blessings. Father Bonnie said to me, when I was in the 3rd grade, “Do you know what a miracle is? A miracle is the gift of sight and hearing because not all children can see and hear. Miracles are the things that happen every day that we take for granted.” This, in part, provided a foundation for what would become my career as it drove me to be compassionate and to understand others. Joseph A. Peduzzi, Esq. St. Clare Class of 1985 – I am an AV-rated personal injury lawyer in West Palm Beach, and currently serve as the Vice-Chair of the city’s Criminal Justice Advisory Committee. I am on the Board of Directors of Warm Hearts Animal Rescue, and Ibis Property Owner’s Association. I am a past member of the city’s Affordable Housing Advisory Committee and served on the Board of Directors of Growing Together, Inc., and the North Palm Beach Volunteer Fire Department, Inc. I recently retired as the Chief of Volunteers / Deputy Fire Chief of North Palm Beach, where I also served as a Reserve Police Officer. I attribute much of my success to my parochial education, and particularly the solid academic, ethical and moral foundation provided by SCS. I am forever grateful for the values instilled in me at such an early age, and for fostering the desire to perpetuate those values through service to others. I graduated from Cardinal Newman, Loyola University (B.A.) and Nova Southeastern University (J.D.).
Paul C. Kuo, MD, MS, MBA – I was at St. Clare Catholic School from 1970 to 1972. A short period of time, but one that dramatically altered my life. My home room teacher, Mrs. Cole, took the unusual step of suggesting that my parents skip me from 5th to 6th grade. Honestly, I had never been academically challenged and my first few weeks in 6th grade were a humbling experience. I look back fondly upon my time at St. Clare; it was that period in my life that challenged me to work hard, study and prepare. These habits have sustained me for the past 44 years (wow!) and are the same characteristics that I have imparted to my kids. I am grateful to St. Clare and Mrs. Cole for everything that they have done for me in my life. I am presently the John P. Igini Professor of Surgery and chairman of the Dept of Surgery at Loyola University Medical Center in Chicago.
