Music is a part of a well rounded education and St. Clare School ensures this foundation by providing the opportunity to not just hear music, but to participate in it’s creation! Grade levels participate in music class weekly. In addition, we offer band and choir.
Band is a voluntary extra-curricular program offered to students in grades 3-8. Students choose their preferred instrument (Flute, clarinet, alto saxophone, trumpet, trombone or drums), then attend a half hour lesson on Wednesday during the school day. The lessons times vary so a student doesn’t miss the same class each week. The St. Clare School band performs at various School functions throughout the year, including a performance at Mardi Gras. They hold a winter and spring concert, and they also perform at local senior centers. Lessons and practices occur outside of regular school hours, including lunch and recess time and after school.
Experienced band students perform at least twice a year, with the opportunity to be invited to an Honor Band program that includes students from over 20 Catholic schools in Dade, Broward and Palm Beach counties. Beginning students perform at the night of the arts at the end of the school year.
Please contact our band director, Mrs. Lederman-Porter, with any questions you might have about the band program.
The St. Clare School Choir is a Christian-music based program available to students in grades 4-8 as an extra-curricular activity. Students meet after school weekly and perform in various school functions throughout the year, including singing at monthly School Masses, monthly family Masses and the annual Variety Show, and the annual Christmas Program.
